Performance analysis of shunt active power filter based on GSA tuned PI controller

This paper work deals with elimination of harmonics using shunt active power filter (SAPF). Active power filters are widely used for reduction of harmonics in power system caused by nonlinear loads. The reference current is determined for compensation of harmonics source current with help of synchronous reference frame (SRF) method using proportional integrator (PI) controller. Modification is accomplished by tuning of PI with gravitational search algorithm (GSA). Performance of system with GSA tuned PI controller is compared to conventional controller. It minimizes settling time, overshoot that show improvement in SAPF transient performance. The proposed system is simulated using MATLAB/Simulink and its success in meeting power quality standards limits as IEEE standards.
