Finite element analysis of a linear actuator used for biomedical application Comparison with Matlab and position sensor

The right steps to follow for a Finite Element Analysis (F.E.A) applied to a linear actuator used for biomedical application are represented in this paper. The Ampere's theorem is detailed in order to prove the essential role of the air gap. The position reached by the actuator using an analog sensor is compared to the ones with Matlab and the finite element software from INFOLYTICA. The alloys from AK Steel company were introduced to choose the high permeability material for a best magnetic performance. The desired position of 100 mils which is equal to 2.54 mm is reached by three different methods starting by Matlab simulation and was confirmed by both of the Finite Element Methods and an experimental test using an analog position sensor. In this paper, a complete research of the linear actuator is proposed which encompasses all the subjects and considered as a sample to follow.
