Gateway discovery in MANET using machine learning and soft computing: A survey

Mobile Ad-hoc Network (MANET) is a new approach of communication as it has no any prior infrastructure requirement. The operability and fast deployment has enhanced its acceptability in this fast-growing environment of Internet. MANET also faces the problem of dynamic topology that change rapidly over time. This dynamic behavior is either caused by mobile node movement, environmental factors, battery failure and bandwidth problem. Due to this dynamic topology, the network performance highly degrade as reliability of packet delivery is reduce and resource utilization will be poor. To adapt to such conditions, several networks protocol were introduced to overcome such problem but less often researchers has utilized machine learning techniques to eliminate this problem. The learning also suggests solutions which can maximize the utilization of this Mobile Ad-hoc network. The mobile node established the connection with the help of special gateway called MANET Gateway. The discovery of these gateways could be done with the help of machine learning technique or soft computing technique. In this paper, we have illustrated a literature review of machine learning based gateway discovery approach. The pros and cons of all proposed methodologies are evaluated against the dynamic problem.
