UWB transmitter using OOK modulation technique in 45 nm technology

In this paper, an Ultra Wideband (UWB) transmitter design in 45 nanometer (nm) technology is described. Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has provided the spectrum of 6 GHz-8.5 GHz for commercial purpose in UWB range of operating frequency. A Phase Locked Loop (PLL) is employed to generate 6.25 GHz carrier frequency from 62.5 MHz crystal oscillator frequency. The implementation complexity is reduced by the utilization of On-Off Keying (OOK) modulator. The incorporation of modified data dependent impedance cell method in OOK modulator has achieved proper on and off isolation in the modulated signal. The implementation of UWB transmitter in 45 nm technology has increased switching performance, reduced power consumption and reduced the overhead of architecture. The average power consumption of the UWB transmitter using OOK modulation technique in 45 nm technology is measured to be 22.65 mW. Conventional UWB transmitter consumed 47 mW of power consumption. It is learnt that there is 48.19% gradual reduction in power consumption.
