Quantized input field oriented control of sensorless homopolar synchronous motor drives

This paper represents a new method of controlling homopolar synchronous motor based on defining a Control Lyapunov function by creating quantized realizable inputs. Other control methods such as vector control, direct torque control etc. rely on heuristically chosen hysteresis band in order to choose switching instants which can create unwanted switching events. Conventional methods of switching like space vector modulation (SVM) rely on high frequency state space averaging that yields unnecessary switching. Here, we present the use of energy related Lyapunov function owing to selecting input based on the stabilizing effect it has on the system and thus minimizing switching events. A theoretical design of mechanical and electrical system has been presented here. Efficacy of the system performance is verified through computer simulation.
