Dynamic equivalent modeling approach of wind power plant with PMSG-WTGs

This paper proposes a multi-machine representation approach for dynamic equivalent wind power plant (WPP) with permanent magnet synchronous generator wind turbines (PMSG-WTGs) considering wind speeds with non-uniform distribution. The operating characteristics of wind turbine is represented by using transfer function and the control of back-to-back PWM converter is described by current controlled current source (CCCS). After constructing a WTG model, the wind turbines in WPP are grouped into one equivalent wind turbine using their position as a cluster classification index, and hub speeds of wind turbines is calculated considering the wake effect and spatial distribution characteristics of wind speeds. A WPP dynamic model represented by multi equivalent wind turbines is created in EMTP/ATP software package. Case study is carried out under fault condition. Simulation results show the power output property, as well as dynamic voltage characteristics of the WPP at the grid integration point.
