Design of a photovoltaic system using VHDL-AMS language

Solar energy is a renewable and broadly available energy resource. It is principally for this reason that the photovoltaic systems are increasing extensively. In this paper, we present a VHDL-AMS model of a photovoltaic source and its boost converter in order to study the electrical behavior of the photovoltaic system with respect to changes in the environmental parameter of temperature and irradiance. In this work, first we model a 200w solar panel and compare its simulation results with curves taken from the manufacturer's datasheet. Then, we implement the maximum power point tracker function to the boost converter in order to improve energy conversion efficiency.
