Design of anomaly packet detection framework by data mining algorithm for network flow

Anomaly detection is extensively renowned as a significant stage in intrusion detection system (IDS). IDS can be classified into signature detection and anomaly detection. Signature-based IDS are effective in discovering known attacks, but does not detect the newly invented attacks. They cannot adapt to evolving network data streams in real time. Also, detection rate and false alarm rate are happens to be the most vital issues and challenges in designing effective IDS. The aim of this paper is to detect the anomaly packets. To do so, this paper proposed framework by using data mining algorithm to detect anomalies. The proposed framework uses data mining techniques with sliding window model and clustering techniques. Data mining algorithms are used for mine pattern which are frequent in the network data flow. Normal traffic (profiles) compared with real time network flow to find out anomalous traffic. The effectiveness of the proposed model demonstrates with the experiment on real datasets from the various network flow. Result of the experimental show that algorithms are competent. So, the system using real Internet traffic has highlighted its ability with a high detection rate and preserving very low false alarm rate. This proposed framework provides a more accurate, effective and systematic approach to detect anomalies.
