A comparative analysis of various approaches for automated assessment of descriptive answers

In this research work, comparison based approaches are undertaken where students' descriptive answers are compared with a specific standard descriptive answer. The comparison unit can be a word, phrase, node, concept or sub-graph depending on the type of approach. Experimentation with different approaches, Text-Text, Graph-Graph, Text-Cmap (Concept map) has been tried, to determine a feasible solution for automating the descriptive answer evaluation process. A comparative analysis of all the three approaches has been done. The issues and their solutions are also revealed while investigation.
