Modeling of a straight channel and Y-splitter waveguides by loading SiO2 planar waveguide with MgF2

In this work, we proposed a strip loaded waveguide design based on SiO₂/MgF₂ dielectric materials for integrated photonics. These waveguides are capable of propagating TE and TM polarization at 0.633 μm visible and 1.52 μm telecommunication wavelengths. The buffer layer (MgF₂) was optimized for both wavelengths, below that thickness; mode can leak into the substrate due to the high refractive index of the substrate. Based on this waveguide structure, many optical elements such as S-bend, Y-splitter can be realized which will provide a compact platform for integrated optics.
