Analysis of multi-loop retrodirective cross-eye jamming system for large platform

A long baseline of the cross-eye jammer is required to induce a large angular error into the monopulse radar system. However, the long baseline of the cross-eye jammer comparable to the large size of ship platform separates the jammer return from the platform return, which makes the cross-eye jamming be recognized and isolated easily. In this paper, a new jamming spatial distribution consisting of multiple retrodirective jammer loops with short baselines is proposed. The multiple retrodirective jammer loops aligned along the shipboard operate to ensure that the jammer return cannot be separated from the platform return. Meanwhile, since the path-length differences affect severely the performance of the proposed jammer scenario, we further observe the effective compensation method through computing the formulas of path-length differences by Taylor-series expansion. The exactly compensation of path-length differences including the required precision of measuring the jamming range and the rotation angle of jammer loop, avoids the multi-loop retrodirective cross-eye jammer acting as a beacon rather than a jammer. Simulation results show the superiority of the proposed jamming scenario for the practical application in the ship platform, and discuss the required precision of measuring the rotation angle and the jamming range to ensure the proposed jamming scenario effective.
