Design of slot arrays for the generation of stair-step patterns

Generation of desired shaped beams is utmost important and needs thorough investigations to make them optimized. Various beam shapes are used for point to point communications and high resolution radars. Targets moving at different heights and at different angles can be identified by stair-step patterns. In this paper arrays of slot radiating elements are designed to produce Stair-step patterns. Insertion loss and VSWR at different frequencies are obtained and the results are presented for inter element spacing. The design of slot arrays provides the determination of non-linear conductance for each slot of the array using transmission line approach which deals with all internal reflections. In the present work, slot width and length are fixed and the angle of the slot in the narrow wall is designed in one case. In the second case, keeping the slot width and length constant, the displacement of each slot from the wall center is designed to match the slot conductance. In this paper normalized conductance is evaluated to produce stair-step pattern. From the designed slot data on normalized conductance, the variation of VSWR and insertion loss is obtained.
