Low power aspects of a microcontroller-based module with wireless communication

Recent advances in radio communications, microprocessors and microcontrollers helped the spreading of wireless sensor networks and Internet of Things modules. This devices are usually battery supplied so low power consumption techniques are required to increase their battery life. The present paper describes the design and analyzes the power consumption of a microcontroller-based module with wireless communication in 868MHz ISM (Industrial, Scientific, Medical) band in different power scenarios, considering aspects like battery selection, communication range, software complexity and implementation effort.
