Throughput performance analysis of an integrated mobile WiMAX — DSRC cellular network with adaptive modulation and coding technique

Access to the Internet has become a predominant activity within our everyday life. So, new advanced broadband technologies are required for delivering high quality multimedia applications to the customers with high speed and elevated reliability. Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access (WiMAX) is one among the competing technology in present circumstance to offer broadband facility with high-speed data access. But the overhead issues with this technique due to huge number of control signal exchange prevents it in gaining popularity in services like vehicular communication. In recent time, Dedicated Short Range Communication (DSRC) is an emerging technology for short range vehicle-to-vehicle communication. So for long distance vehicular communication, the integration of WiMAX and DSRC technology can be an efficient approach. In this paper, an Integrated WiMAX-DSRC cellular network is proposed in which clustering technique is applied in enhancing the throughput of the users. The performance metric taken here for analysis is the throughput of the system and its expression is derived. Also, the effect of varying different modulation and coding scheme (AMC), uplink/downlink subchannel ratio and uplink/downlink symbol ratio on the performance metrics are elaborated.
