Performance comparative analysis between ARAN and SAODV on VANET facing the blackhole

Vehicular Ad-Hoc Network (VANET) is a network technology which uses vehicles as mobile nodes to form a communication network. In order to communicate, all vehicles have to use routing protocol for finding the shortest path to send data packets to a destination. Related to that communication process, the routing protocol used is vulnerable to be attacked such as can be altered or even can be terminated overall. SAODV (Secure Ad hoc On-Demand Distance Vector) and ARAN (Authenticated Routing for Ad hoc Network) routing protocols are used to answer this kind problem on VANET. Securing the communication channel and route searching process are the goal of the implementation of SAODV and ARAN. This study is executed to analyze SAODV and ARAN performances in the form of the effect of blackhole happened on a VANET node. Implementing the blackhole attack scenario is done by using topology model based on Vehicle to Vehicle (V2V) communication system. According to analyze the performances, several parameters are used, namely Packet Delivery Ratio (PDR), Average End-to-End Delay, Packet Loss Ratio (PLR), Routing Overhead (RO), Convergence Time, and Normalized Routing Load (NRL). Basically, ARAN is more protective than SAODV. However, by analyzing the simulation result using these six non-secure parameters, it can obtain more comprehensive summary for assessing the performance of both protocols. Tends to the simulation result, it is found that the performance of SAODV is better than the performance of ARAN in almost all tested parameters. This condition is presented by SAODV's parameters which are larger PDR value when faced with topology changes, better Average End-to-End Delay, smaller PLR, more efficient Convergence Time than ARAN's parameters.
