Analytical analysis of structures composed of periodic arrays of slits and dielectric slabs

The stacked structures of patterned metals and conventional dielectric films are known to support the band gap properties. Methods based on analytical solutions are the common methods for solving these structures in subwavelength regime. In these methods, a single unit cell of structure modeled by a transmission line model where the patterned metallic film is replaced by a circuit model of lumped elements. In this paper, the structures built by stacking alternative layers of arrays of slits and dielectric slabs are analyzed by applying a simple analytical circuit model equivalent to arrays of slits. The employed circuit model includes a transmission line corresponding to the slits terminated by the surface admittances. Furthermore, a Π network of lumped elements equivalent to the arrays of slits is introduced in this paper. Finally, I study the electromagnetic wave transmission through the multilayered structure based on the effective medium theory.
