Resonances of uniaxially anisotropic photonic nanoresonators

In this work we calculate the resonance frequencies of open spherical anisotropic nanoresonators. The theory used is based on the volume integral equation method which supports the anisotropic properties of modern nanomaterials used in photonic applications. The developed method is applied on the computation of the modes appearing in various photonic applications, like whispering-gallery-mode (WGM) lasing and interfacial refractive index sensing. The method proves accurate for the prediction of lower order as well as higher order modes. The theory is validated with comparisons to separation of variables method, and can be considered as a tool for the prediction and interpretation of experimental results.
