A modelling and optimization toolkit for integrated urban energy system

This paper presents optimization of CCHP system on their design and operation in the integrated energy planning for an urban district of an Economic&Technological Development Zone in Hangzhou City. This district planning aims to establish a national-level smart microgrid pilot project for the application of renewable and clean energy including solar, geothermal and natural gas, etc., and four scenarios have been analyzed, based on which the answer to the question of how different types of technology mix meet the local energy service requirements under different circumstances is given. A range of technologies have been considered as alternative supply side technologies as they are thought suitably representative of the generic commercial alternatives currently available in China. Results of the optimization are described by four scenarios, showing that a potential reduction in net present value, primary energy saving and GHG emissions of up to 30.5% and 47.6% and 60.5% respectively are available by installation of roof-top PV, GSHP, natural gas-based CCHP and storage systems.
