Design and realization of STL model slice algorithm based on dynamic adjacent edge

Based on the analysis and summary of the features of existing STL (Stereolithography) model slicing algorithms, the STL model slicing algorithm that based on dynamic adjacent edge is proposed. According to the Z-max and Z-min of the Z-coordinate projection in the slice direction and the thickness of the every layer, achieving slicing the whole STL model, and the topological relation of the adjacent edge array is established. On the basis of this topological relation, taking the adjacent edges as the objects to build the dynamic sequential list to remove redundant data. The iterative method is used to complete calculating the intersections of the tangent plane and edges, and the oriented closed printing path can be obtained by connecting the intersections orderly, it improves the slicing efficiency with the guarantee of accuracy. Through the analysis and comparison of the actual slicing and printing operation of components, the efficiency and enforceability of the slicing algorithm are verified.
