Modelling and analysis of PV panel for reducing EMI noise radiation

An equivalent circuit of a photovoltaic (PV) panel with a DC cable is synthesized for a computer-aided design of a countermeasure against the noise radiation. The PV panel and the cable are expressed by a lumped and distributed parameter circuit, respectively. The parameters of the equivalent circuits are determined from the measured impedances. The circuit analysis is carried out using the Electro-Magnetics Transients Program (EMTP). In addition, a model of the PV panel for analyzing electromagnetic interference (EMI) radiated from PV power generation systems by means of Finite-Difference Time-Domain (FDTD) method is proposed in this paper. The wire model of the PV panel is built in the Virtual Surge Test Lab (VSTL) software based on FDTD method and the measured panel current is injected into the model to calculate the radiated magnetic field. Results revealed good compliance between measured and calculated radiation hence the validity of the proposed model to regenerate noise radiation from the PV panel is proved. The focus of this paper is on EMI emissions in the frequency region from 100 kHz to 10 MHz.
