Superconducting magnetic energy storage system with an adaptive control algorithm for reducing the impact of smart power generation

Keeping in the mind of smart power generation, the Superconducting Magnetic Energy Storage (SMES) system is proposed along with a Modified Leaky Least Mean Square (MLLMS) control algorithm. Specifically, the compensation of current harmonics, reactive power and even the temporary supply failures due to intermittent nature of the power generation are performed in this paper. The efficient control algorithm is used to extract the tuned weight value of the fundamental active and reactive power components of the system load current. Particularly, this paper focuses on the generation of reference source currents from the tuned weights of the proposed algorithm. Moreover, the power quality of the grid is enhanced significantly by employing the SMES system. The DC-link voltage regulation of <;10% is achieved using the MLLMS control algorithm. The performance of the proposed SMES system is conducted in the MATLAB software.
