On board energy storage and control for Inter-City Hybrid EMU

Inter-City Hybrid electric multiple unit (EMU) is very good choice for the cross line transportation between electrified and non-electrified railways. This paper proposes an on board energy storage system (ESS) for inter-city hybrid EMU to absorb braking energy and feed the train for the non-electrified lines. The system and its working modes are introduced, as well as the system modeling. Taking into account the characteristics of hybrid EMU, corresponding control strategies are presented. A simulation model based on MATLAB is established to verify the control strategies. And dynamic test result is presented. The results validate the proposed system and its control performance.
