Gas diffusion synthesis of calcium carbonate nanoparticles at different temperature

Calcium carbonate is carbonic salt that is needed in the industry for varied applications. This work studies on gas diffusion as a method to synthesize CaCO₃ nanoparticles at different temperature for reaction from 6h to 168h. Surface morphology and molecular bonding for the precipitated CaCO₃ was studied. This was done by characterizing the precipitated CaCO₃ by FESEM, EDX and FTIR. FESEM micrographs shown that the longer the reaction time, the smaller the crystallite size and the more uniform the average size and distribution is. FTIR confirmed that the synthesized product is indeed of Calcium Carbonate. It was found that the smallest crystallite size was for reaction 168h. Reaction that was done in room temperature produced smaller crystallite size compared to in lower temperature 9°C.
