Planning, dimensioning of nodeb with calibration of the propagation model

With the evolution of cellular networks and the panoply of different services offered, it is crucial for mobile network operators to start planning with procedures that are simple, inexpensive and robust. In this paper we develop and present a methodology for the planning and dimensioning of UMTS network dedicated to the region of Bejaia in Algeria. The work focuses on the UTRAN since the implementation of this represents a majority part of the total investment in infrastructures. We present here a network dimensioning methodology, oriented towards the optimization of the radio coverage. Atoll prediction tool is used for simulations, where the most appropriate propagation model for this study was developed using calibration techniques. The results obtained show the practicality of this approach in a heterogeneous environment composed of four areas namely, dense urban, urban, suburban and rural.
