Particle swarm-based optimization of an in wheel permanent magnet motor

As part of the optimization of electric machines, we are interested in this work to optimize the geometrical parameters of an in-wheel permanent magnet motor with an external rotor and concentrated windings. In the magnetic circuit optimization, three based Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) multi-objective optimization algorithms were applied: Multi-Objective Particle Swarm Optimizer (OMOPSO), Speed-constrained Multi-Objective PSO (SMPSO) and Dual Multi-Objective PSO (DMOPSO). To achieve an optimized design, two objective functions are implemented while respecting certain constraints: (i) the first relates to increasing the machine efficiency and, (ii) the second concerns the machine weight minimization because it is directly coupled into the wheel. We have also presented the behavior of DMOPSO which can include a preference of the weight objective compared to the efficiency objective during the machine optimization.
