Synchronous running of voltage-fed miniature single-stator permanent magnet motors

A mathematical model is established for a single-stator permanent magnet synchronous motor when voltage-fed. Non-dimensional parameters governing the behaviour of the rotor are identified and conditions on them determined under which the motor goes into synchronous running both when loaded and when unloaded. The maximum torque which the motor can develop and when this can occur are investigated.
