Fast mutual information-based map model matching

A new model-based approach is proposed to address map matching issues where homogeneous areas of various intensities are expected. Based on information theory and mutual information, a similarity measure between a reference model and an observed image is derived. Its straightforward computation is illustrated for a challenging application with a Synthetic Aperture Radar image. The whole process is very fast and should be considered for real-time applications.
