Lessons Learned in Design and Delivery of an Introductory Styling MOOC

-This paper describes the design and delivery of a successful Massive Open On-line Course (MOOC), namely “Introductory Styling”, that implements three phases of a lecture video to teach introductory fashion design and styling to a wide audience. The decisions behind the curriculum and video editing strategy are described in detail, and the results are evaluated based on follow-up interviews (n=20). There were two thousand lecture views during the three sessions delivered in the first semester, 2016. Based on the feedback, we believe that the following major factors are responsible for the success of the course: 1) the curriculum development relied on experience with a traditional course, 2) the lectures were designed according to training theory and practice, 3) active participation in the discussion forums by both instructors and mentors took place, and 4) the MOOC video proposed in this study consisted of three phases.
