Techniques of rain fade countermeasures in Ka-band satellite communication on ships

Ka-band communication is an important development direction of satellite communication, the rain fade has been the main factor which restricts the engineering application; rainfall spatial structure in the sea, the layered and convection rain cause great influence to the Ka-band satellite communication. The paper analyzes the reasons of rain fade, points out the electromagnetic wave absorption, thermal noise and depolarization is the important factor of Ka-band rain fade, according to the characteristics of the maritime shipping, puts forward rain fade methods such as the uplink power control, frequency diversity, rate diversity, adaptive modulation.
