Optimized design for beat-length stability of rhomb lattice holey birefringence fiber

The impact of lateral deformation on dispersion characteristics of birefringence and polarization beat-length in holey fiber with rhomb lattice was simulated by full-vector finite difference beam propagation method. It is found that proper lateral deformation in this fiber can effectively suppress the nonlinear change of birefringence with wavelength. The expanded linear range can make the polarization beat-length stable in wider wavelength band. By optimization, the relative fluctuation of beat-length value is less than 2.67% over wavelength range from 1.1 μm to 1.9μm. This fiber is suitable for making wideband fiber-optic wave-plate covering both 1310nm and 1550nm wavelength windows.
