Evaluation of a smartphone keyboard for the visually challenged

Smartphones have become essential to modern day living, almost like a sixth sense to the human being. Touchscreen display for user input is the norm in Smartphones. However, this is a huge inconvenience for the visually challenged users. The available solutions to this problem are quite expensive and therefore not affordable to all sections of this disadvantaged community. We have successfully developed and prototyped a compact inexpensive wireless keyboard that takes Braille inputs. This makes it an ideal solution for the visually challenged community. This work describes the developed system and the results of the evaluation of the system based on various tests.
