Voltage profile improvement in off grid wind turbine system using MGVC and diesel generator

Wind turbine system (WTS) now a day has turned out to be exceptionally useful technique to minimize the centralization of electrical power particularly in provincial territories and rural areas. In any grid connected WTS there are alternatives for receiving reactive power from main grid but if it is islanded or made off grid in that case we need to look for different choices for voltage profile improvement in case of disturbances. Extreme issue may occur in Off Grid Wind Turbine System in case of sudden and unexpected load change or fault. Motive here is to develop a superior control mechanism for more reliable and uninterrupted power supply to consumers. The control mechanism used is coordinated control mechanism which compile all voltage deflections from all the buses and then work on it to generate a signal. This generated control signal is then send to the diesel generator (DG) so that it can provide the required extra reactive power to all the loads in accordance with their sensitivity towards unfavorable conditions, for the voltage profile improvement. For a system consisting of three wind turbine, single DG and a Micro grid Voltage Controller (MGVC) is used to achieve most economical WTS. Matlab^®/Simulink environment is used for designing of WTS, DG and MGVC. After that simulation for 5 bus system is observed in Matlab. Then the results are analyzed in two different cases with and without MGVC. Improved voltage profile is witnessed in the network with MGVC during LG fault and load variation. From the results the percentage voltage profile improvement is calculated.
