To Assess the Core Competitiveness of Taiwanese Design Departments’ Students

Many technical and vocational universities are established with an aim of matching up with national and industrial development so as to cultivate senior talents economic in professional technology application. Thus, human resources and qualities of graduates from higher technical and vocational education system exert considerable influences on national economic, industrial and commercial development [1] Subrahmanyam (2013) indicates: technical and vocational education can effectively solve problem of unemployment and has become an international research issue presently [2]. Implement the curriculum development and planning of technical and practical colleges and universities to meet the needs of enterprises and help to enhance the competitiveness of students in the workplace system., Ministry of Education actively plans and establishes indicators for professional abilities of various academic groups. On that accout, this research aims at constructing a set of evaluation indicators applicable to core competences of design students in Taiwan to assess students' competences. This study uses expert Delphi method in second-round of expert questionnaire survey and achieves consistent viewpoints by virtue of experts' co-decision to construct the evaluation indicators. Definite evaluation indicators developed here can be used as standards for related education units to assess students' competences, Therefore, thus to provide emphasis and direction for education-related units and design departments to plan the curriculum and evaluate teaching achievement, offer reference for the diagnosis of design students' pre-service ability, improve education quality of the school, and achieve the feature of design education being practical and applicable.
