Load-aware user-centric virtual cell design in Ultra-Dense Network

Next generation (5G) mobile communication systems has a goal of ultra-high peak data rate. Ultra-Dense Network (UDN) is viewed as one of the key technologies to meet this challenge. The trend of network densification brings more complex interference. To solve this problem, a novel user-centric virtual cell design is proposed. Considering the changes of virtual cell load, we propose a load-aware virtual cell scheme for the downlink in UDN. Virtual cell is firstly constructed by finding the optimal radius. Then, we select the appropriate activation threshold of joint communication according to the virtual cell load. The scheme also protects the user's quality of service (QoS) requirements. In contrast to no-load-aware case, numerical results show that the proposed scheme avoid cell overload and achieve a reasonable balance of resources and performance.
