Research on ADDIE model applied to develop the digital material of MCRLC in Taiwan

The purpose of this study is to enquire Analysis-Design-Development-Implementation-Evaluation (ADDIE) model applied to digital materials of the Mandarin Character Recognition Learning Course (MCRLC) for elementary school students in Taiwan. Students' character recognition ability generally increased with the age, specifically, increasing fastest from Grade One to Five. When students' character recognition ability was low in Grade Three or Four, students needed a remedial program. The researchers developed MCRLC by ADDIE for underachievers on Mandarin character recognition. There were 18 third and fourth graders participated in the research. The research methods were participant observations, interviews, and a document analysis. The authentic performance data was collected from students' learning process and assessment to identify learning effects of MCRLC. The research duration was one semester. The conclusions of the research were as follows: 1) The context of the ADDIE model was clear for researching and developing the digital material of MCRLC. 2) The rich pictures in the digital material of MCRLC could attract students' attention and willingness to learn. 3) The digital material of MCRLC was effective for enriching students' character recognition ability. Some suggestions were proposed in this paper.
