Simulation and analysis of power frequency electromagnetic field in buildings closed to overhead lines

This paper studies the ability of a reinforced concrete building to shield the overhead line electromagnetic field. For this purpose the overhead line electromagnetic field is determined in a free space as well as in a building. The electromagnetic field calculation in a free space is carried out analytically. The electromagnetic field distribution in the building is determined by numerical simulation. It is shown that the overhead line magnetic field penetrates inside the building almost with no attenuation, because of poorly shielding by building elements. By contrast the overhead line electric field is effectively shielded by building elements, so it almost doesn't penetrate inside.
