Shop floor logistics: technology management issues

Summary form only given. This paper describes some of the management and engineering issues encountered when implementing a shop floor logistics system. Specifically, the paper addresses issues that have arisen from actual implementations of focused storage technology, a key element of shop floor logistics. The technology management issues are considered in terms of the software engineering lifecycle, from software design to installation to operation.
