Control algorithm based on amplitude adaptive filter for DSTATCOM

This paper discusses an Amplitude Adaptive Filter (AAF) based control algorithm for distribution static compensator (DSTATCOM) in three-wire supply system. The DSTATCOM is used in the power factor correction mode for removal of current-based power quality issues such as source-side current harmonics, poor power factor along with load balancing. An AAF not only computes the amplitude and frequency of the signal but it is also adapting the amplitude of the signal under variations. The estimated amplitude is employed to create the reference source currents to generate gating pulses. Tests were carried out using real time digital simulators (RT-LAB) to validate the function of DSATCOM in distribution system.
