Optimization of a smart grid distributed generation: Designing of a hybrid solar system for a building

With the rising energy demand and lack of infrastructure because of geographical condition of India, around 400 million Indian are still not inter-connected to our National Grid System. For supplying energy to our total population in remote areas a micro-grid system has to be implemented, also for meeting the total energy demand a hybrid system has been a significant measure. Micro grid systems independently dependent on uses of renewable source of energy viz solar and wind depending upon the geographical conditions, grid is not connected to the system. Also hybrid Grids in addition to renewable source of energy are connected to our grids. Appropriate combination and configuration is necessary measure for optimal generation. This paper presents a case study of a building of 100 houses with total average consumption of 2007 KWh/D. The latitude and longitude of study is 26° 59' N and 83° 33' E respectively. The proposed model is combination of Wind Energy system, Photovoltaic (PV) array, Converter, Battery storage and Grid. The optimization is done using HOMER. Best possible combination model is studied.
