Implementation of cognitive network channel sensing and allocation

Cognitive radio networks are becoming popular day by day as the need for spectrum is increasing. Its ability to use and reuse the underutilized spectrum makes it a very impressive technology. However it has many challenges that need to be overcome. It needs a well defined architecture and good quality high end equipments in order to get the 100% of cognitive radio. This paper discusses the cognitive radio architecture focusing on every element in detail. We will then continue with the practical implementation procedure of CR. The implementation of cognitive radio was a big challenge as using the licensed frequencies for experimental purpose is not feasible. Hence in order to implement channel sensing and allocation, an artificial network is built using a signal generator which is capable of producing frequencies upto 3.2Ghz. A block diagram of the hardware is explained in detail followed by the observation and conclusion.
