Wide-area visualization tool development for displaying Thailand power grid dynamics

Wide-area visualization tool using synchrophasor information is considerably essential for monitoring and understanding power grid dynamic behaviors. In this paper, a plug-in software application tool for wide-area visualization has been developed to complement the commercial software tool that has the limited display capabilities. The enhanced trending charts and color contour map visualization created by the developed plug-in tool are illustrated using the actual synchrophasor information provided by Thailand power utility. The plug-in application tool runs independent of the commercial software tool as it directly retrieves the synchrophasor data from the database server and then performs the data visualization.
