60 GHz OFDM Radio-over-Fiber system based on Fabry-Perot Laser Diode

A 25 Gb/s 60 GHz Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) Radio-over-Fiber (RoF) system based on Millimeter Wave (MMW) generation using Fabry-Perot Laser Diode (FPLD) is demonstrated. The system is simulated using 60 GHz OFDM with 4-Quadrature Amplitude Modulation (QAM) on each sub-carrier. In this, low cost FPLD is used to generate optical MMW with out external injection. Up to 25 Gb/s optical signal generation and demodulation is tested for the proposed system. At the base station, a high speed photodetector is used to detect the optical MMW. The system is analyzed using Bit Error Rate (BER) and simulation result indicates good performance for downlink transmission.
