Design of flip-OFDM system for optical wireless communication

Optical wireless communication (OWC) has captivated an increasing interest in academia and industry recently with the widespread deployment of light emitting diodes (LEDs). OWC has been expected to be an appealing alternative to radio frequency (RF) systems due to its distinct advantages that include rich spectrum resources and high communication security. Orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) is employed in OWC to achieve high data rates and bearable inter-symbol interference (ISI). This paper focuses on designing a Flip-OFDM system for OWC. The performance of the Flip-OFDM OWC system is compared with the conventional OWC system employing QAM. From the simulation result, it is clear that the proposed system can provide a tremendous improvement in BER performance and high data rate can also be achieved and is well suited for future 5G applications.
