A broadband patch antenna array for Q-band applications

A broadband patch antenna array is developed for Q-band applications. The proposed antenna element fed by substrate integrated waveguide(SIW), can be fabricated with a single-layer laminate by standard printed-circuit board(PCB) technology, which makes the antenna low cost and easy to integrate with planar millimeter-wave (mm-wave) circuits. Based on the principle of multimode broadband antennas, by loading a conventional patch with a rectangular radiator, the simulated -10dB impedance bandwidth of the antenna element is extended to 12.8%(39.5-44.9GHz). while the bandwidth of the 2 × 2 array is 13.5%(39.3-45.0GHz), with peak gain of 10.8-13.6dBi.
