Circuit-board edge-mount dual-polarized millimeter-wave antenna

This work describes a design procedure for a three-dimensional dual-polarized circuit-board edge-mount antenna for mm-wave applications. The radiating structure is excited by two micro-strip feed lines on a thin circuit board. The phase difference of the two feeds varies the polarization of the antenna: in-phase excitation leads to vertical polarization and out-of-phase excitation leads to horizontal polarization. Simulated impedance bandwidth of the structure is 20% around 30 GHz for match better than -10dB. The simulated radiation efficiency of the antenna is well beyond 90% for the entire bandwidth.
