Wideband wide-slot antenna array with protrusion for wide-angle scanning

An X-band wide-slot linear array with protrusion for one dimensional wide-angle scanning is presented. The antenna element is based on a normal printed rectangular wide-slot structure, which is then folded to form a compact cavity to achieve a wide beamwidth in E-plane while retains its wide band characteristic. Metal protrusions are set between the elements in the array to improve the antenna active reflection coefficients during scanning. The simulated results demonstrate that the proposed array obtains a 40% relative bandwidth of active reflection coefficients less than -10dB, covering frequency range of 8~12GHz, within the maximum scanning angles of ±60°.
