Endoscopically-implantable wireless devices for endoluminal applications invited lecture

This presentation reviews batteryless wireless implants for endoluminal applications in physiological symptom diagnosis and management. Overall system constraints, antenna and hardware design consideration, implementation configurations and experimental results in animal models are discussed. Antenna designs, restricted by physical, ergonomic and power limitations, for wireless power transfer through tissues from the external module to the implant face engineering challenges to achieve high efficiencies. The esophagus sensor to detect stomach reflux occurrence and pH, and the gastric stimulator to sustain stomach motility are exemplified for their wireless operation by electromagnetic energy transfer.
