Numerical solution of electromagnetic scattering by very slim conducting structures

Solving electromagnetic (EM) scattering by very slim conducting objects could be challenging in integral equation approach because the polarized current density tends to be singular near the edges of such objects and many low-quality meshes exist when discretized. Traditionally, the problem is formulated based on electric field integral equation (EFIE) by approximating the objects as two-dimensional open structures. In this work, the magnetic field integral equation (MFIE) is employed to describe the problem and the slim objects are strictly treated as 3D objects. The MFIE is a second-kind integral equation resulting in a better conditioning and can also release the low-frequency breakdown problem. Also, a Nyström scheme is employed to solve the MFIE and the low-quality meshes can be used. A numerical example is presented to demonstrate the scheme and its good performance has been verified.
