Detection of cancer cell with light wave propagation in optical bio-sensor

In the present work a novel Photonic crystal based biosensor has been designed, modeled and simulated for detection of cancer cells by testing the blood samples. The sensor converts biological response to an electrical signal. The change in refractive index is captured by the photonic biosensor. It is a two-dimensional photonic crystal based biosensor employing ring resonator structure and a line defect structure. The main parameter considered here is the dielectric constant which is the refractive index of the analyte (sample). For designing the structure of the sensor MIT Electromagnetic Equation Propagation (MEEP) tool has been used. Modeling and simulation is performed for the proposed structure and the analysis is based on Finite Difference Time Domain (FDTD) method. Corresponding to change in the dielectric constant of the sample, there is an associated amplitude and frequency shifts. The sensor designed is highly sensitive and can differentiate normal cell and affected cell.
