Question answering system using web snippets

Question Answering System (QAS) is an information retrieval technique which provides descriptive answer for the given question rather than web links. QAS has many applications like retrieving information from the web, online examination, education, health care, sports, geography, etc. The search engines like Google, Yahoo provides list of web links as the results for the given query. But the web searcher is interested in direct answer. To discourse this problem, this paper provides a solution to provide direct answer for the given question through web snippets. Question preprocessing, Web Pages extractions, Snippets Extraction and Answer Identification are the processes involved in this proposed system. For Experimental purpose, the Google pages for sports and agriculture related questions were extracted and expected answer is provided through our proposed system with high accuracy.
